Headache
3 Most Common

Headache

Tension headaches are the most common primary headaches and are characterized by a constant, dull ache and a feeling of tension around the forehead, temples, or neck. Unlike migraines, they are not accompanied by nausea or light sensitivity. Triggers include stress, poor posture, and muscle tension.

01 Tension

Cervicogenic headache, which arises from structural problems in the cervical spine, is a secondary headache caused by joint dysfunction, disc problems, or muscle tension in the neck region.

02 Cervicogenic

Migraines are neurological headaches characterized by intense, throbbing pain, usually on one side of the head. They are often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound. One of the possible triggers is muscle tension in the neck, especially in the upper neck region.

How Chiropractic Helps

Headaches do not always start in the head

In some forms of headache, the neck can play an important role. The joints and muscles of the upper neck constantly transmit information to the nervous system and can influence how tension and pain around the head and neck are experienced. Therefore, when treating headaches, MijnCHIRO looks not only at where the pain is felt, but also at the function of the neck and the surrounding muscles.

When the neck can play along

When neck joints have reduced mobility or muscles remain tense for extended periods, this can contribute to headaches in some people or cause symptoms to recur more easily. This is particularly relevant for tension headaches and cervicogenic headaches. The neck can also play a role in migraine, but migraine usually has multiple possible contributing factors.

Looking beyond just the headache

During the examination, neck movement, muscle tension, and the way different areas work together are assessed. The goal is to determine whether there are factors from the neck or musculoskeletal system that may be contributing to the symptoms.

Less pain and less tension

When this is the case, the treatment is tailored to what is found during the examination. The goal is to reduce irritation and excessive muscle tension and to improve neck movement.
