What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic focuses on the connection between the spine, nervous system and body
When a joint doesn't move properly, this coordination is disrupted. The brain then receives unclear or incorrect signals, which can lead to muscle tension and pain—precisely the process we influence with a chiropractic adjustment.

Joint dysfunction disrupts the sense of body-position
A joint with limited movement sends insufficient or incorrect information to the brain. This is interpreted by the brain as a threat and can stimulate an alarm response

The brain responds with an alarm response
This disturbed input causes increased muscle tension, poorer coordination and often pain, even though there may not always be a serious local problem.

A chiropractic adjustment is like resetting that sensor
The rapid impulse restores movement and activates numerous sensors in an instant. This provides the brain with clear information, normalizes muscle tension, and often reduces pain rapidly

That ‘cracking’ sound during a chiropractic treatment isn’t a bone breaking — it’s simply gas bubbles releasing inside the joint. The manipulation stimulates nerve receptors, which improves body signalling, coordination and muscle function. Chiropractic treatments do far more than create a sound — they help the body move better and function more efficiently.
Manipulation is one way to restore movement in a restricted joint, but it’s certainly not the only option. Chiropractors also use a range of low-force techniques that aim for the same outcome with much less load on the body. Examples include the Activator and other controlled, gentle release methods.
The intention behind these approaches isn’t to “put a joint back in place.” Instead, the focus is on influencing the joint’s receptors. These receptors constantly provide the nervous system with information about how the segment is moving. When a joint becomes restricted, the small stabilising muscles often tighten to protect the area, and that creates the familiar sense of something feeling stuck or not moving correctly.
By giving a precise stimulus—whether through manipulation, the Activator, or another low-force method—the nervous system receives new input. This can trigger a reset in those small muscles, reducing the protective tightening. As that eases, the joint can move more freely and the region feels less tense.
Compensation patterns also play a significant role. When one segment stiffens, other areas of the spine unintentionally take over. Low-force techniques help interrupt these patterns by providing subtle input to the movement system without large pressure or rotation. For many people—especially sensitive or older patients—this can be a comfortable and safe way to create change.
In short, manipulation is effective, but it isn’t the whole picture. Chiropractors have multiple ways to influence joints and surrounding structures, each with specific advantages depending on the individual and the situation.
The spine responds to load by changing how its joints move. When those joints stop moving smoothly, the body interprets it as “something not sitting right.” People often describe this as a vertebra being “out of place,” simply because they don’t have a better word for a joint that isn’t functioning well. It’s not that a vertebra suddenly shifts or slips — it’s reduced movement, muscle tightening and irritation of the tissues around the joint.
A small restriction in a joint can create surprisingly strong discomfort because the body relies on precise movement and accurate sensory input from that area. When a joint stops moving well, the receptors in the capsule and surrounding tissues start sending altered signals. The nervous system interprets this as something that may need protection.
In response, the deep stabilising muscles around the segment tighten. They brace the area to prevent further irritation. This protective mechanism is useful, but it often feels to the person as if something is stuck, pulling, or blocked. Those tightened muscles can also generate pain on their own.
A compensation pattern then develops: when one segment doesn’t move properly, other regions have to work harder. That extra load can irritate tissues that were originally fine, making the discomfort feel broader or more intense than the initial restriction.
So the issue isn’t a major structural problem—it’s the sensitivity and precision of the body’s movement system. A small disturbance can trigger a big response. Once joint motion improves and the protective muscle tension drops, the discomfort often eases surprisingly quickly.

Consultation options

First Consultation
The first appointment consists of an intake interview to assess your symptoms, a physical examination, and a follow-up discussion of the findings with a treatment plan. Your first treatment can take place immediately afterward.

Follow-up Consultation
The treatment is completely customized, ranging from joint manipulation to more refined, gentler techniques such as activator techniques and myofascial therapy. If indicated, you will receive additional, simple exercises to do at home.

Screening
This is a free 15-minute consultation for anyone who is unsure whether we can help, wants to discover whether we are a good fit for each other, or has doubts or questions about the treatment.

“Chiropractic – the natural way to help you become pain-free”

A body functions as one whole.
I see symptoms as expressions of a broader functional pattern. The nervous system directs every movement and responds to everything the body experiences: posture, load, tension, breathing, and the way joints and muscles work together. When this interaction falls out of balance, the body creates compensations that lead to pain, stiffness, or reduced control—often in a different area from where the symptoms are actually felt.
That’s why I assess far more than the site of pain. I look at how someone moves, which reflexes are active, where the body seeks or loses stability, and how different regions influence each other.
My treatments aim to improve that coordination, allowing the body to function more efficiently, with less tension and fewer protective responses.
A body in balance is a body that can heal
My clients' experiences
I came to Mr. Cullinan for a pinched nerve after my C-section. I was in so much pain I could barely walk. After three sessions, I was pain-free.
– Tamsyn van Rooyen
When I first met Adam three years ago, I couldn't walk properly and was living on six to ten painkillers a day, all due to lower back pain. Adam not only solved the problem but also enabled me to exercise and cycle daily. I no longer take painkillers and am happy to say I live a full and healthy life.
– D. Neofytou
Many of our customers experienced the following

Less pain
Reduction of pain complaints and improvement of quality of life

More mobility
A general relaxation of the body

More resilience
The ability to do more without always being limited by their complaints
What is a holistic approach?
Body as a Whole: Complaints are often not limited to one spot. Coherent approach for real solutions

Function, not Symptoms
Focuses on the shift from symptom management to addressing underlying dysfunctions for long-term balance.

Restore Balance, Integrate the Whole.
Emphasizes the interconnectedness of the body and the focus on addressing the root of dysfunctions

From Neck to Pelvis, Everything is Connected
Emphasizes the interdependence of the body's structures and the holistic approach to care.

Satisfied Patients
Adam helped me tremendously after a horseback riding injury and during my recovery from encephalitis. Regaining movement in my neck was painless, and the neurological problems I was experiencing have almost completely disappeared. Adam's treatments are holistic and completely effective. Thank you, Adam, for getting me back on my feet!
– Tamsyn van Rooyen
One evening, I had a very stiff neck, and a friend introduced me to Adam Cullinan. I was impressed! I've been seeing him ever since to correct my spine and relieve my pain. I was seeing double and couldn't drive, but within about three visits, my double vision disappeared. According to the ophthalmologist, there was nothing wrong.
